In a given situation
the set of all the elements being considered is called the universal
set and given the symbol ε. For example, various subsets of the
pupils in a class may be looked at, such as
A = {pupils who play chess}
B = {pupils who cycle to school}
In this case the universal set is the set of pupils in the class.
In a venn diagram the universal set is usually drawn as a rectangle.
