Question: What is Translation ?

Answer:

When a shape is transformed by sliding it to a new position, without turning, it is said to have been translated. Every point of the shape will have undergone an identical displacement, which can be described by a vector.

In the example shown, the quadrant has been displaced by (3, 1) so the translation can be described by
(x, y) = (x + 3, y + 1)
